and counting until the presidential debate tonight. mitt romney, he is gaining in two swing states. could this be romney's springboard? romney has whittled the president's lead, take a look. he's whittled the president's lead in the two percentage points in virginia. this is according to a poll released today by marist college, the wall street journal and also nbc news. two-point lead for obama, that's down five points last month. keep in mind we're talking virginia, that's 13 electoral votes there. and check it out, similar story for you in florida. 29 electoral votes there. now, a one-point, one-point lead for obama, down from four points in september. we should mention here that poll shows the president still with the seven-point lead in ohio. we can't forget about ohio. but speaking nationwide here, the president's lead, in our cnn poll of polls, you can see it here, stands at 3 percentage points, unchanged. as we noticed today, kind of interesting, the president has gained one point and romney dropped one point. this is the gallup national tracking poll. obama with a six-point lead t

the president to help gop nominee mitt romney, mr. netanyahu has said his actions are not tied to the u.s. political calendar. the white house downplays any friction between the two leaders and brushes aside criticism that there was no face-to-face meeting. >> the president has met with and spent time on the phone with prime minister netanyahu more than with any leader since he took office. and that is reflective of the importance of and the closeness of the relationship between the united states and israel. >> reporter: the white house would not say if the two leaders talked about the so-called red line, which of course is a key issue. and no specifics on how they will stop iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. but they did agree to "continue their regular consultations on this issue." wolf. >> dan lothian reporting from the white house. thank you. mitt romney also spoke by phone today with the prime minister. the call came while romney was at the philadelphia airport after making several campaign stops in pennsylvania. that's a state most political experts don't think he'll win. but a

romney will have the chance to answer questions that they themselves have been somewhat reluctant to answer. we're going to run through some of the big ones keeping them honest. first, we have late polling. new cnn numbers that show the race tightening. president obama still leads 50% to 47%. the three-point gap is within the poll's margin of error. mr. obama got a four-point bounce to put him in the lead. the president's favorable rating meantime remains above the crucial 50% mark at 52%. mr. romney is close but still in negative territory at 49%. he enjoys an edge on handling the deficit and joblessness, but trails on virtually every other big issue, including medicare, taxes and foreign policy. keeping them honest, when it comes to some of those issues, both candidates have come up short either on specifics or credibility. issues like cutting taxes without ballooning the deficit or burdening the middle class. the romney campaign has been asked again and again for specifics. here's runningmate paul ryan just yesterday on fox news. >> there's been a traditional democrat and repub

campaign you ask. a mailer making the rounds in northern virginia from the romney campaign touts the candidate's strategy of doing more to fight the spread of lyme disease. yes, that is a real flyer. and earlier, the obama campaign, the burse python was a real concern for the obama campaign. a tweet from obama's press secretary ensured that residents knew the administration has banned import of the snake. now, you may laugh and there is some humor in this, but it is r very, very serious for some. ticks and snakes. because these micro targeting campaigns can really move the needle. they're important to crucial voters in crucial states like florida and virginia. ben smith, david frum, former adviser to george w. bush and corey elons. great to see you. so, you know, david, i have to say, lyme disease with so many to joke about this, it's got to be there's some crucial core of lyme disease cases and this is something people care about. turns out loudon county, northern virginia, has one of the highest rates of lyme disease in the country. could this issue really resonate? >> resonate
